Plastic Presta stems crack, bend and strip after a season of pumping. The aluminium stem takes a track pump every race weekend, has a removable core (swap it in seconds, or fit a valve extender) and weighs only a few grams more. If you race, this is the one.
Check the valve hole in your rim. A small hole (about 6 mm) takes a Presta valve, a big hole (about 8 mm) takes a Schrader (car) valve. The Alu Presta is for the small hole.
